POLICE COURT.— Tuesday. (Before Mr. H. W. Northcroft, S.M.J
Drunkenness. — One first offender was fined ss, or in default 48 hours' imprisonment ; and Robert Hill, for a second offence, was fined 20s, with the alternative of seven days' hard labour. Stowaways. — Two young men named Arthur Watson and William Albert Warner, i pleaded'guilty to having travelled on the s'.s. | Tarawera from Sydney to Auckland between I November 7th and lltli without having pre-! viously paid their fares. Each of the accused was fined £2, or in default 14 days' hard labour. Juvenile Burglars.—James Magee (14), Cecil Cole (14), Harry Queloh (13), Archibald Grubb (11), were charged that they did, on the 10th November, at Ellerslie, break and enter a certain building, known as the grandstand, and steal a quantity of cigarettes valued at about ss, the property of one H. Tanner. All four pleaded guilty, Sergeant Gamble explained that Mr. Tanner had occupied tho grandstand booth for the sale of liquor, etc., on the previous day, and the stolen goods among others were left over and placed in a back room, the door of which was securely fastened. The boys admitted the theft, but stated that they found the lock broken off and the door partly open. Mr. Northcroft pointed out to the accused the penalty they had rendered themselves liable to, and -adjourned the cases for one week, stating that he would further adjourn them from time to time to see how the boys behaved. Alleged Theft. —A young mar. named James William Alexander was committed for trial on a charge of stealing the sum of £8 2s 4d, on or about August 21st last, the property c{ one John De U?nzy,
