On Queen's Birthday the Devonport Ferry Company issued 5000 through tickets to the Takapuna races in addition to those going to the North Shore for pleasure apart from" horse racing. This large number of people were carried to and fro without accident and little inconvenience, and the last of the Aucklanders attending the races left the North Shore Wharf for town by 6.15. The whole of the traffic arrangements were under the personal supervision of Mr. Alex. Alison, the manager of the company, and the record is a creditable one to him. The result of the Hebrew School examination was the distribution of annual prizes yesterday morning, at half-past eleven, at the Synagogue Chambers, Princes-street. Mr. Isaac Phillips (President of the Hebrew Congregation) presented the prizes with a few appropriate remarks to each pupil, as follow :—Class I. : Rita Posseniskie, Rose Hart. Class 11. : Isaac Hart. Class 111. : Lucy Ehrenfried, Henry Benjamin, Eva Neumegen, Vera Posseniskie. Class IV. : Casper Hart, progress and good attendance. Class V. : Gustavo Kronfeld. Class VI. : Gussy Ballin, Anne Feldman. A special prize was also presented to Miss Lucy Ehrenfried by one of the teachers (Miss Rita Posseniskie), and tho Rev. Mr. Goldstein, on behalf of the Congregation, presented Miss Rita Posseniskie and Miss Rose Harb with some special valuable books to mark their appreciation of their services as teachers. Mr. P. A. Philips addresaod a few words in season to the pupils present, urging increased zeal and punctual attendance. The President asked for a vote of thanks to the examiners (Messrs. Philips and Nathan) and the head master, the Rev. Mr. Goldstein, to whose zeal and energy the success of the sohool was mainly due. After a few remarks from the head master, the proceedings terminated. There were 'a number of lady friends present. To-morrow evening the Rev. A. H. Collins (president) . will give a lecture to the Ponsonby Baptist Mutual Improvement Society, on " My Trip Across the Continent of Europe.",
