The Union Company's steamer Australia, Captain John Gibb, arrived from Wellington and East Coast ports last night. Mr. Reeves, the purser, reports that the steamer left Wellington on April 25, and arrived at Napier the next day. Owiug to th« southerly gale blowing, making it impossible to work Gisborna and the coast, did not leave Napier until the 2Sth. Landed passengers and cargo at Gisborne next morning, but the heavy sea running prevented working the usual bays, so proceeded on, and had fine weather and smooth sea across the bay to arrival yesterday. The Australia leaves again at 5 p.m.
In consequence of the heavy sea running into the Napier roadstead the Mararoa was unable to land her cargo. It will, however, go forward by the Australia, leaving tomorrow.
On Sunday last the Waihora passed the barquentine St. Kiida, and on Monday the schooner Huia bound from the Kaipara to Sydney, both wishing to be reported all well. The Auckland consignments by the steamer Kaikoura from London arrived from Wellington last night by the Australia. The Northern Company's steamer Argyle arrived from Mercury Bay and Kuaotunu last night, and left for the Great Barrier. Yesterday afternoon the schooner Queen arrived from Hokianga after a rough trip. Captain T. Jones reports saiiing from Hokianga on April 22, and met with a strong north-westerly gale the same nischt, and was hove-to for ten hours. The wind then shifted to the westward and moderated. Cape Maria Van Diemen was passed at 11 p.m. on the 24th, when the wind came from the north, afterwards hauling to the E.B.E. andfreshening to a gale. Put into Whansraiei for shelter on the 26th, and remained there until the 29th, and arriving as above. C.,rgo : 200 cases and sacks kauri gum, 300 posts and sleepers, 14 bags fungus, 12 cases dried apples, 3 cases jams, 2 bales wool, 1$ tons leumeras, and 3 tons sundries. The Queen sa,ils tor Hokianga again on Saturday. The Northern Company's steamer Wellington left for Whangarei last night. Last evening the Northern Company's steamer Douglas left for Whangarei. Yesterday the schooner Sarah Pile was cleared at the Customs for the Thames, where she loads timber for Rockhampton. She will sail to-day. The barquentine Handa Isle was floated out of dock yesterday morning after cleaning and painting. At the Queen-street Wharf the Melanesian Mission yacht Southern Cross is having her cabin accommodation overhauled. As soon as the new stern tube is ready she will be floated into dock to have it fitted, and will then leave for Norfolk Island and Melanesia. The schooner Welcome, at present at Rockhampton, has been chartered to proceed to Surprise Island and load guano for Wellington. Yesterday the schooner Awanui sailed from Wellington for Westpprt. The Union Company's steamer Rotomaana arrived at Sydney from this port yesterday. This evening the Northern Company's steamer VVaiotahi leaves for Tauranga and Opotiki. The American barque Grace Deering has been chartered to load at New York for Auckland and Wellington, and is to sail about May 15. The steamer Indra was loading at Liverpool for Adelaide in March last On April 19 the barque Natal Queen sailed from Hobart for Timaru with a cargo of hardwood timber.
THE MARAROA. The Union Co.'a steamer Mararoa, Captain H. W. H. Chatfield, arrived from Melbourne, Hobart, and Southern ports at 5.15 p.m. yesterday, Air. W. H. Bourne., the purser, to whom we are indebted for our files, reports; —The Mararoa left Melbourne at 7 p.m. on April 18th, Hobart at 2.18 p.m. on the 20th, and arrived at the Bluff at 10.35 a m. on the 23rd f and sailed again the same day, working Dunedin on the 241h and 25th, Lyttelton on the 2Gth, and Wellington on the 27th, reaching Napier at 11 a.m. on the 28»h, and sailing thence at 9.50 a.m. on the 29th, and making Gisborne at 4.20 p.m. on the same date. Left the latter port at 8.50 p.m., and arrived as above, having experienced favourable weather generally throughout the voyage, with the exception of Napier, where a heavy sea was running. The Mararoa leaves for Sydney at 5 p.m. to-day. THE ANGLIAN. After a very rough passage the steamer Anglian, Captain P. Le Neveu, arrived from Sydney at 745 a.m. yesterday. Mr. Cerutty, the purser, to whom we are indebted for our files, reports that the steamer left Sydney wharf at 5 p.m. on Wednesday last, passing the Heads 40 minutes later. Sighted the Three Kings at 7-30 a.m., and passed the Isorth Cape at 12.10 p.m. on Monday, arriving as above. Experienced heavy, continuous south to east-south-east gale, with high, confused seas to the Is'orth Cape ; thence to arrival fresh south-east winds and heavy swell. The Anglian left for East Coast and Southern ports at 4.30 p.m. yesterday, and for some reason remained dodging about near the Bean Rock lighthouse for some time, eventually rounding the North head shortly before 6 p.m.
THE WAIHORA. Shortly before midnight the Union Company's steamer Waihora, Captain R. Neville, arrived from Sydney. Mr. Murley, the purser, to whom we are indebted for late lea reports :—The Waihora left Sydney at 11.20 p.m. on Thursday last, cleared the Heads at midnight. Experienced fresh S.E. winds, accompanied with heavy head swell until sighting the Three Kings at 2.5 a.m. yesterday, thence strong south winds until arrival. Passed the North Cane at 6 a.m. on the 30th, arriving as above. The departure of the Waihora for Souther ports, Hobart, and Melbourne has been postponed until 12 o'clock to-night. THE WARSHIPS. The Rapid left for Samoa yesterday morning. The troopship Tyne is looked for at Sydney from Plymouth on the 25th instant. The Tyne is bringing out relief crews for the Mildura and Dart, and a number of men to be distributed among the other ships on the station. She is to sail again for England on •June 4, taking the time-expired officers and men of the Dart and Mildura, and a contingent of invalids and others from the other ships. The Tyue is due back in England on August 9. _^ THE TYSER LINE. Cable advices have been received by the agents stating that the Tyser Company's new steamer Star of New Zealand left London for Melbourne, Sydney, and New Zealand ports on April 15. Auckland is the first port cf call ia this colony.
THE POHERUA. The Union Company's steamer Poherua, from Newcastle to this port, was passed by the Waihora on Monday afternoon, and should reach port this morning. She leaves for Westport on Friday afternoon.
THE VISION. The Kauri Timber Company's brig Vision, which recently put into Russell, while on the way from Rockhampton to Kaipara with a number of her sails blown away, has arrived in port, having come down to refit.
