FATAL ACCIDENT AT MAUNU.
[FROM OUR OWN correspondent.] Whanoabei, Thursday. An accident occurred at Maunu yesterday, which eventually proved fatal. Joseph Edge and Robert Cleary were felling a puriri tree on the property of the latter at Maunu. Whilst the tree was falling, Edge got caught in some undergrowth, and before he could get out of the way, the tree fell on him, pinning him to the ground face downwards. It, took over two hours to remove the tree, with the labour of six men, the tree having to be sawn through, and then jacked off with great difficulty. Drs. Hall and Smith were summoned, and found that a leg was broken, but otherwise he did not seem much hurt, except that he was very much shaken. He, however, died at six o'clock yesterday evening. Deceased leaves a wife and six children to mourn their loss. At the inquest to-day a verdict of accidental death was returned.
