THE NEW ZEALAND INSURANCE COMPANY.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I have seen ib stated thab one-third of the neb premiums of such a company will be about the amount of unearned premium, or as ib is commonly called, the insurance fund. The neb premiums in the balance - sheet recently issued amounted to £265,178, and one-third of this is £88,392. The re-insurance fund is pub down at £110,000, which is £21,608 in excess of the third of the premiums. Ib seems then that, say a round sura of £20,000 in excess of liabilities is put down in the re-insurance fund, andthat this sum should be put to the credit of say reserve fund, or perhaps £15,000 to it, making ib £140,009, and £5000 to investment fluctuation account. lb is no use for a company like the New Zealand to make itself as being worse than it really is, by having its liabilities so much in excess of what they legitimately are. The assets of the Company are reduced by this £20,000. —lam, etc., A Shareholder.
