THE WELLINGTON CUP.
[Br TELEGRAPH. —PRESS association.] Wellington, Tuesday. SIECE the decision of the New Year's Day racing, the betting on the Wellington Cup has livened up considerably, although there is only one metallician in Wellington who has a straight-out book. It was thought that Mr. Evett would have penalised Lottie and Mtthaki to a greater extent than he did for their Auckland victories, and so soon as the re-handicapping appeared both horses were well backed, and 5 to 1 is the best offer against either. North Atlantic, too, is considered to have escaped lightly after his win in Napier. There ie little money to be had about him even at a point longer than the favourites. Golden Plover was backed from the right quarter, it is said, some time ago at 100 to 8, and there are enquiries for Westmere and Lady Zetland.
