A very lively game resulted in the latter scor- '• ing another win by the weight of a pawn, •which won on the 15th move. The centre counter gambit was played between Hookham and Hatherly. The former inaugurated a combination, which resulted in his winning ' an exchange and a pawn, and ultimately the game. Lelievre played an irregular kingpawn opening against Earraud. At the . luncheon adjournment the latter had won a ■:'■'■] pawn, but the game was even. Cocks opened -v his favourite stonewall against Edwards. The game is still even. The game between Mackay and -Pleasants was a Ruy Lopez, the former having the attack. The game is ,< fairly even. : Play was resumed at a quarter to three S : this afternoon. Barnes won from Pearce. Cocks and Edwards agreed to a draw. In the game between Mackay and Pleasants the latter pressed his attack, and, though Pleasants played a strong defence, he gas unable • fco withstand it, and resigned off the 26th move.
