At a recent date a remarkable .■'ale took place at Warwick Halt Farm, Cumberland, the tenant, Mr. Wilson, retiring from business. The attendance was variously estimated at from 300!) to 400 people. There were 2200 sheep, 23!) ots of cattle, 31 horses, and a. large number of other lots, no fewer than four auctioneers officiating'. The sale realised between £10,000 and £11,000. Taken all round, prices were satisfactory. According to the English tradition that tho cricket on the hearth brings luck to the home, the Americans are now adopting the same notion, a cricket farm having been started at Rochester, New York State, to supply households with the lucky insect. At certain seasons we could exporb a few millions from these shores.
