She left the Group'on January 21, with a crew of six men, including he? owner, Captain Neill Brodie, who is one of the oldest island traders. It is believed the vessel foundered in a hurricane. She was originally a British gunboat. MURDER. OF A NEW ZEALAND . TRADER. Sydney, April 2S. Island news states that Captain Donald Guy, a trader well-known in New Zealand, has been murdered by natives at Nona Island, in the Solomon Group. They tomahawked the unfortunate man in order to obtain his head for a new war canoe. H.M.s. Royalist will be instructed to proceed to the scene of the massacre, and punish the natives. MURDER OF A BANK MANAGER. Sydney, April 2S. McManus, a well-known resident of Gimmedah, who was arrested on suspicion'of being concerned in the murder of McKay, the bank manager at Barraba, has been discharged. The police express themselves confident that in Cumming and Lees they have the guilty parties. UNIVERSITY BOAT RACE. Sydney, April 29. In the University eighn-oared boat race Sydney defeated Melbourne by ten lengths. ; Time, 17m. 12s.
