A social meeting was held on April 0, in the Orange Hall, Papakura, to celebrate the twenty-ninth anniversary of the arrival of the immigrants from Scotland by the ship Viola. About 60 or 70 persons were present, including parties from Auckland, Ararimu South. Hunua, Wairoa South, and Ness Valley. After a sumptuous repast of tea and cake and other good things, the Rev. T. Norrie was called to the chair, and delivered an address appropriate to tho occasion. Ho congratulated the assembly on the success that had attended their settlement, and the many advantages they enjoyed, both temporal and spiritual, in their adopted country. Other speeches followed, in which Messrs. McLean, Rhind, and Fulton gave interesting reminiscences of the up and downs of colonial life, and the incidents of their settlement at Otau and Korikeri. Mr. McLean especially gave testimony to the general success that had abtended their efforts to establish a home, and truly said, on behalf of all, bhab if an offer of free emigration were given bo settle in the home country, thoy would nob accept of ib. The whole proceedings passed off pleasantly. The price of New Zealand flax delivered in London has fluctuated during the past few years from £45 to £15 per ton.
