THE DAIRY INDUSTRY IN THE TAURANGA DISTRICT.

[by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Tauranga, Thursday. A MEETING of those interested in the dairying industry was held ab the creamery yesterday. Captain Pitt, chairman of Reynolds and Co., Mr. Richard Reynolds, of Cambridge, Mr. Farley, the Waikato manager, and Mr. Morris, the local manager, met the milk suppliers for the past) season. There were 22 suppliers present. Messrs. Reynolds and Co. reported that the season's operations had been eminently satisfactory, and that the creamery could now be said to be permanently established. Mr. Farley, on behalf of the company, asked tor a guarantee by the suppliers of the number of cows they were prepared to milk for the next five years. This was responded to on the spot by 23 suppliers, guaranteeing 501 cows, and 12 absent suppliers were put down for 149 cows besides, making a total of 650, guaranteed in writing for five years, with a large prospective increase. The price is to be settled each year, but will not be less than 2£-d per gallon. Captain Pitt highly complimented the suppliers on the way they had backed the company up, and was greatly pleased at the success of the season's operations, especially in view of < the initial difficulties. He was pleased with the district, which was very suitable for dairying purposes, and was so satisfied of the future prospects that his company had deoided to erect another separator, and spend £200 on Improving the buildings and making them more suitable. After the meeting Messrs. Reynolds and Co.'s representative met the owners of the factory and settled for a years'lease with right of purchase. A meeting of settlers is to be held to-night at Kaikokopu, beyond Te Puke, to meet Messrs. Reynolds and Co.'s representatives, and arrange for the establishment of a creamery there. At Katikatl also steps are being taken by the settlers to have a creamery erected, and a sufficient number of cows has already been guaranteed. The dairy industry seems to be getting firmly established all through the district, for both Mr. Earl, at Katikati, and Mr. Goss, at rePuke, have had a successful season at cheese making, and have disposed readily of all they made at remunerative prices. Ihe etiect is being felt in a strong demand for farms tor dairying purposes anywhere within reach oi the factory. •
