HOLIDAY AND REGATTA AT CHRISTCHURCH.
[BY telegraph.—PßESS ASSOCIATION.] Christciicirch, Thursday. To-day was generally observed as a holiday. Large crowds went to Sumner and New Brighton, and to Lybtelton, where the steamer Gothic was the great centre of attraction, a shilling being charged for admission to the vessel, The proceeds, amounting to £121, will be divided between the Nurses' Home, at the Christohurch Hospital, and the Seamen's Rest. The (Jhristchurch Regatta at Lake Forsyth to-day, was completely spoiled by the strong north-easter. After the Maiden Double Sculls had been decided, the water became so rough that a postponement of an hour was decided upon. The Juvenile Double Sculls was then got off, but immediately after the wind became so strong that no further races could be rowed. The regatta will be completed at Sumner this afternoon. The following are the results :— Maiden Double Sculls. —Avon Rowing Club, 1; VVairewa Boating Club, 2; Canterbury Rowing Club, 3. The Timaru Rowing Club and Star Boating Club, also started out but did not finish. Won by five lengths. Juvenile Double Sculls.— Rowing Club, 1; Union Rowing Club, 2. Won by three-quarters of a length.
