Wellington, Tuesday. The rumour telegraphed from Dunedin, that Mr. James Mackay, chief clerk in the Labour Department, was to be appointed Inspector of Factories in Dunedin, is denied. , •' '■■' . !<.'• ••••-;<.!; Mr. Walter Goalen, well-known in commercial circles, formerly secretary to the Gear Company, and latterly in- the employ of Levin and Co., died suddenly this morning. ',;.:;,.'.' ,; Dunedin, Tuesday. The station of John A. Mason. Dalvey 'station, comprising five stalls and five loose boxes, in which were three horses, two buggies, and a quantity of other property, were destroyed on Monday. They were insured in the Standard office for £150. The amount of Mason's loss is unknown. ■;
Two Princes-street shopkeepers will be charged on Thursday with breaches of the Shop Act, in failing to allow some of their employees the legal half-holiday. , '„ \ Further charges of trespassing on the racecourse will be heard, and ib is understood they will be treated as test : cases, and carried to the Appeal Court. 1
