FBI TELEGRAPH,—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] '' ; - si' V'■ Thames, Monday. - i Moanataiari. —Operations in this mine wero resumed on behalf of the company on Thursday last, but the battery which has during the holidays received a' thorough overhaul did nob commence crushing until this morning, when 30 Si stampers .were started to operate ' upon the company's quarts. . ■;-n ■ _ '- * < May Queen.-—'The repairs to this comfmny's battery were completed so that the all forou of stampers commenced crushing operations (22 head on the company's dirt and 10 head on. Alburnia dirt) at. nine o'clock this morning, and all the machinery is now in splendid : working order. The extension of the drive upon the new reef through the Trenton section was also recommenced to-day atthe, Saxon, No. 6 level, so that all the company's works; are onoe more in full awing ; and judging from present prospects in bobs? of the races good results should ensue almost immediately. Steam was gob up at the Saxon winding plunt this afternoon, and to-night the men are employed in re-adjusting the guides in the shaft previous to resuming winding operations. .■ ~o v '

Hazei/bank. — in the mine wore again resumed on Wednesday last. the work being proceeded with as usual. Toe drive on the cross lead at Wo. 2 intermediate is being extended, and I expect to hole into the level that was driven from Turtle's workings some time next week. The lead is foar inches thick and underlying very fiat. The lead looks promising, but I - have • seen no gold this week. In the third stope west of the winze above this level on Darby's, there is an improvement in the quartz coming to hand as gold has been freely seen in breaking it out, and a few • pieces of picked stone selected. The first and second stopes east on this level are also being carried forward. It is rather , split up in those slopes, but gold has been occasionally seen in the qartz. The country in the eastern drive at No. 1 level has been of a slidey formation, but there appears to be a change for. the better ooming in the face. The ground is firmer and mixed with quartz veins. : The lead in the second stope above this level is l six inches thick. The quartz contains * good deal of silica, amongst which a little gold has been seen. The third stope is pro-: ducing a fair amount of.good crushing dirt. The lead looks well as it is carrying a large quantity of antimony and 20 pounds of picked stone have been obtained froth' here during the week. In the. fourth stope the lead is somewhat split up, but nevertheless gold has been freely seen in the quartz. The flat lead is also being taken along in this stope, and although no gold has been seen; the quartz looks promising.' Two men are; employed in the stopes on the cross reef above the No. 2 intermediate. The quartz is i heavily mineralized, also a ■ little gold has \ been seen in breaking it out.
