ALLEGED LARRIKINISM AT EDEN TERRACE.
Six young men, named respectively, William Hunter, William Codlin, Edward Codlin, Alborb Sandall, William McLachland, and Charles Clarke, whose ages ranged from 14 to 18, appeared ab the Police Court yesterday morning to answer the charge of having on the 19th December, at the How North Road, unlawfully assaulted and beaten one Herbert Leigh, a young man 20 years of age. Sergeant Gamble represented' tho police. Mr. G. NBrassey appeared on behalf of the informant, and j Mr. W. J. Napier defended four of .the accused. Mr. Brassey applied to the Bench for a remand, as ono of his most important witnesses, Dr. Girdler, was absent from;town,!, Mr.. Napier strongly objected to an adjourn-, ment, on the ground that the prosecution had had ample time to have obtained all evidence required, tho alleged , assault having been committed sixteen days ago. The evidence of the doctor was quite superfluous, as he was. not present when the assault was committed. After considerable argumentation between counsel the Bench adjourned the case until next Wednesday. ~ . -~ ! .mi
