WELLINGTON NEWS NOTES.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Wellington, Wednesday. DISTINGUISHED VISITORS. Mr. Nelson, the Premier of Queensland, arrived in Wellington per s.s. Talune this morning. He was received and shown over the Government offices and buildings by Sir Patrick Buckley. AN HISTORICAL RELIC The workmen engaged on the alterations to Parliament Buildings came yesterday upon a carious deposit., which may have an historical interest for many old colonists. This was a bottle containing copies of the Wellington Independent newspaper of the years 1856 and 1858. This "relic" was handed over to the care of the Public Works Department. , LANDS FOB SETTLEMENT. . The Surveyor-General and the Tax Commissioner have returned from Marlborough where they were inspecting certain lands for settlement offered for sale to the Government. They go to Canterbury in a few days with a like object in view. LIBEL, It is stated that Sir Robert Stout will be counsel for the plaintiff in the libel case to be tried next month, Bell v. Fairplay.
