« - THREATENEE REPETITION. [Br TELEGRAPH.—IRE3S ASSOCIATION.} ■ Inapier, Wednesday. A. largely-attended meeting of country settlers was held tc-day, when a strong committee was appointed to act in conjunction with the engineer in formulating i general scheme for the protection of the Ahuriri flats from floods, in response to a request by Captain Resell, tbe PostmasterGeneral has promised to instruct country postmasters and telegraphists to report the rise of rivers in the same way as weather warnings are given, so that settlers on the plains below may move their stock and household goods when floods are threatened, Captain Russell is now asking him to have the warnings posted ac all telegraphic stations on the plains, as they might nob bo published soon «mough' in the newspapers. Heavy rain set in this afternoon. The rivers are nearly bank high, and are rising fast. Unless the rain soon ceases there will be a renewal of the floods. .-,,., .
