THE ELECTORAL ROLLS.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— view of the electoral rolls not being available for electors' inspection until the 26th instant, it seems rather unreasonable for the Legislature to have passed so drastic a measure as the 13th clause of the Electoral Act, 1893. which enacts that every person who shall be registered in respect of more than one qualification in more districts than one shall within 40 days (and I presume 40 nights) after the commencement of the Act, to wit, the 29th October, choose the district, etc., in which he elects to continue to be registered, in default of which lie is liable to a penalty of £5, and is also virtually disfranchised, as he will not be entitled to vote at any election. This will give a man who has the misfortune to be possessed of property in any other district than the one in which he resides, and whose name may appear on any other roll wherever situate just two clear specified days in which to positively ascertain such fact both in town and country, and failing which _he is under the pains and penalties provided, and which constitute part of the Liberal measures passed "for the people." How truly will the cry apply. "Ye came to bless, and lo ye have remained to curse," when this clause is brought into operation, as it assuredly will be.l am, etc., E. Hadrill.
