THE INSTITUTE OF JOURNALISTS.
[BY TELEGRAPH. ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Saturday. The annual meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Journalists was held this afternoon. The report and balance - sheet showed the Institute to be in a, satisfactory position. Tho president, vice-president, and officers of the Institute were re-elected. Our Wellington correspondent says the annual meeting was a mosb pleasing function, though members had to do other than congratulate themselves upon their success in two important directions, the Libel Bill and the Institute of Journalists Bill. The president, Mr. Gillon, however, held out strong hopes of the passage of the latter during the next session. He read an invitation senb by the English Institute to attend the annual conference in London, and remarked that the statutes in the old country and New Zealand, and the treatment meted out to pressmen, seemed to be widely different. The New Zealand Institute however bad made substantial advances. Thanks were passed to all members of both Houses who had voted for the Institute Bill.
