MR. ISITT'S COMMITTEE REQUESTED TO "CASH UP."
TO THE EDITOR, Sir, —Can any pressure be brought to bear upon Mr. Isitt's committee to induce them to pay over the money they owe to the Ladies' Benevolent Society? It will be remembered that it was publicly announced that the whole of the net receipts of the discussion between Mr. N. Melville and myself were to be given to the Ladies' Benevolent Society. It is now moro than three weeks since the discussion took place, and I have made repeated attempts to get the accounts from the committee, so that the money may be paid over. I got nothing but evasive replies and promises, which are never fulfilled. There are only four items for payment—the hire of the hall, the advertisements in the Herald and Star, the printing of the tickets, and a cab for Mr. Melville. (I paid my own tram-fare.) Surely it cannot require three weeks to pay these four accounts. I hope the committee are not going to degrade themselves to the level of the City Couucil, and repudiate their debts. —I am, etc., R. H. Bakewell. Karaiigahape Road, September 14.
