Palmkhston North, Thursday. A conference of the racing clubs of thfc Hawke's Bay and Wellington districts was" held here to-day, twenty-one clubs being represented. Resolutions were unanimously passed calling upon the metropolitan clubs to proceed with the election of delegates as soon as possible, with the object of holding an early meeting of the conference, and expressing the opinion that the present system of metropolitan clubs should be abolished in favour of a body elected by the whole of the clubs in each district. The V.R.C. Derby candidate Carnage is reported to be amiss. ' It appears that the colt, in the early part of last week, reared up in his box, and, falling, injured one of his shoulders. He was unable to get about for a few days; but on Friday last he was walked to Geclong, where he was treated to swimming exercise. The only feature of note in the Melbourne betting market was a, demonstration against Carnage, who receded to 10 to 1 for the V.R.C. Derby, Projectile nowbein? favourite at sto 1 for the classic event. Camoola still continues at the head of the Melbourne Cup quotations at 14 to 1. Nominations for all events to be run at the Avondale Jockey Club's Pony Meeting close to-night at Mr. H. H. Hayr's office.
