THE VANCOUVER MAIL SERVICE.
INTERVIEW WITH MR. HUDDART.
THE INTENTIONS OP HIS FIRM. Press Association.—Electric Telegraph. -Copyright.
London, September 12. • Me. Huddaet, of the firm of Huddart, Parker, and Co., has arrived in London. In reply to an interviewer, he said he had. written to the New Zealand Go-
vernment offering, in the event of Queensland refusing to contribute, to change the route in order to enable his steamers to call at New Zealand alternately with the San Francisco mail service. If Queensland contributes, he is willing to run an express steamer from New Zealand to Sydney to make connection with the present line. Mr. Huddart has also written to the Victorian Government again asking them to vote a subsidy. He hopes they will
begin with £5000. He intends to approach the Imperial Government again in November. Mr. Huddart says the success of the service is now assured. The Canadians are taking great interest in it, and will give cordial support. The railway company has promised temporarily to convey goods at cost price. Larger and faster steamers will be ready to sail at the end of next year.
