AUCKLAND REPRESENTATIVES AT THE NEW

SOUTH WALES COMPETITION.

For some time past earnest endeavours have been made by the leading marksmen of Auckland to promote a movement for sending a team of shootists to represent Auckland at the next New South Wales intercolonial rifle matches. It has been decided to send a team of five to represent Auckland. Captains of companies have been appealed to a3 to what contributions companies would make, but the reply almost invariably has been that their company has no funds, and tho committee therefore agreed to appeal to tho citizens, and a committee is appointed to canvass for subscriptions. It has been decided to contribute £10 per man towards expenses. The representatives will be selected from the most successful in three competitive matches, for which each competitor will have to give an entrance fee of £1. The first competition will take place on Saturday at the *200, 500, and 000 yards ranges, seven shots at each. A shooting committee, selected entirely outside competitors and yet retaining tho best shooting experience, has been made. They include Captain Robertson, Lieutenant Watson, Sergeant Par."low, Gunners Hatswell and Taylor. This committee is to control tho competitions for •.he selection of representatives.
