THE RUGBY UNION. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday. The New Zealand Rugby Union will reply officially to certain allegations in the Canterbury Union's manifesto. A sub-committee consisting of the president, the secretary, and the delegates for Auckland and South Canterbury were appointed to draw up a reply. It is probable that the New Zealand Union will form a referees' association for the colony with branches in each affiliated district. Rules and regulations concerning the association have been obtained from the Queens--land Referees Association. The object of the association is to secure an inter-change of ideas and decisions amongst referees and bring them into more direct relations with the Appeal Committee of the New Zealand Union. The proposed association will be affiliated with the Australasian Referees Association through the proposed Australasian Rugby Union.
