POLICE COURT.—FRIDAY. [Before .Messrs. K. clavton and ,1. .McLarhlnn, .1.1 Vs.] T.akckny.—Arties Austin was charged with stealing' one gold watch and {jutird valued at. £7, the property of .1. <loster. Accused pleaded guilty. Detective Chrystal, who arrested the accused, produced the watch. Sergeant. Gamble conducted the pro«eeut ion. lie asked the Bench to allow him to reduce the value of tho watch, in order that the prisoner might be dealt with summarily. The owner of the watch was an engineer on board the To Ivoa, and the vessel had left for Wellington. Theexpenseof bringing him to Auckland, and also committing the accused for trial would lie considerable. The Bench acceded to I he sergeant's request, and sentenced the accused to six months' imprisonment.
Foi.ick Oi'FKNdi:* Act.—George Harne* was charged with dug an idle and disorderly poison, having no visible means of support. Evidence was given by Detectives Chrystal and Grace, and Constable Lamb, as to prisoner's mode of life. The Bench considered the charge proved, ami sentenced the accused to one month's imprisonment.
