The circular which has been i«?ued by tho Department of Agriculture with rogard to Arbor Day (4th August next) contains a number of suggestions to public bodies as to how they may aid in tho project. School committees are specially urged to use every means in their power to encourage the planting and beautifying of school grounds, and tho proposed programme includes speeches, to bo followed by suitable music, such as the National and New Zealand Anthems, Arbor Day Cantata, etc., or the singing of the son, "Planting of the Tree." The circular contains practical suggestions on tree-planting, with a list of forest and other trees and shrubs suitable for planting. The anniversary of the induction of the minister, tho Rev. K. Sommerville, was celebrated at St. Peter's Presbyterian Church, Surrey Hills, yesterday, by services of a specially interesting character. Considering the very unfavourable state of the weather, the attendance was good. The morning service was conducted by tho Rev. W. J. Williams, Principal of the Three Kings Wesleyan College, and in the evening the Rev. J. Hill, of Devonporb, officiated. In the afternoon, at three o'clock, the Rev. George Nicoll, of the China Inland Mission, gave a very interesting address to the Sunday-school scholars and their friends, upon mission work amongst the Chinese, illustrating his subject with numerous anecdotes. The anniversary soiree and concert will take place to-morrow (Tuesday) evening, for which occasion an excellent programme of vocal and instrumental music has been arranged.
