THE COLONIAL TREASURER IN DUN ED IN.
[BY TELEGRAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, Friday. The Colonial Treasurer arrived from the South to-night, and proceeds North to-mor-row morning. He expects todelivor the financial statement the first week in the session. A deputation of fishcurers and fishermen waited upon the Treasurer to represent that the fish export industry was completely destroyed by the import duty in Victoria. Over sixty men had been thrown out of employment in consequence in Otago alone. They suggested that if possible the Government should raise the export bonus so that ib would equal the Victorian import duty, in which event trade could be profitably resumed. Mr. Ward replied that if the i increase could bo given he thought it would I be well to grant it, and after ascertaining ! what sum would probably be required, and considering the possible effect he would submit the matter to his colleagues.
