Wellington, Saturday. A man named William Henry Smith, with a nnmber of aliased, has been arrested on a charge of arson at Otaki, and remanded. Wkstport, Saturday. The export of coal for the week was 3851 tons. Gbeymouth, Sunday. The export of coal produced for the week was 2663 tons. Donkdis, Saturday. Dunedin bookmakers have retained Mr. Soloman to act in conjunction with Mr. Joynt in prosecuting an appeal against Mr. Beetham's decision convicting persons laying totalisator odds and for trespass on the Riccarton racecourse at the last 0. J.C. Meeting.
Sunday. A bootmaker named Alexander North attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself, but was cut down by hie wife. He had been drinking lately.
