POVERTY BAY TURF CLUB. fjßt" TELEGRAPH. — PRESS ASSOCIATION. -- v ' Gisborne, Tuesday. The first day's racing of the Poverty Bay Turf Club's Spring Meeting was held to-day. There was a fair attendance, though the weather was showery with a keen wind from the South. The following are the results :— Maiden Plate.—Dandy, 1; Te Kapu, 2; Creeper,. 3. Three others rati. Won by a length and a-half. Dividend, £5 Is. Maiden Scurry.—Playmate, 1: Happy Jack, 2; Bessie, 3. Nine others faced the starter. Dividend, £1 lis. Spring Handicap of HOaovs, one mile and a-half .—St. Malo, 1; Pani, 2; Zanzibar. 3. Stockfish, Zaecho, Avis, and Lord Raven also started. St. Malo won by half a-length, after a splendid race. Time, 2m. 4345. Dividend. £2 17s. Post Stakes.—Hexam, 1; Takapua, 2; Bernawzer, 3. Two other starters. Hexam won easily. Dividend, £113s. Handicap Hurdles, one mile and threequarters.—Othello, 1; Rimu, 2; Herbert, 3. Caitiff and Gridiron also started. Othello won by a length, after a grand race. Time, 2m. 37&. Dividend, £2 15» The Hack Hurdles did not come off, as there was only one entry. Flying Handicap, six furlongs.— Pani, 1; St. Malo, 2; Stockfish, 3. Three others started. Pani won by two lengths. Time, lm 18is. Dividend, £2 15s. Hack Handicap.—Pekapu, 1; Kotiro, 2. There were four other starters. Won easily. Time, lm. 50A.S. Dividend, £2 Is.
