MASONIC INSTITUTE.
The annual meeting of the Masonic Institute was held last evening, and there was a good representative attendance of Masters, P.M.'s, and brethren. Brother H. C. Tewsley, P.M. (the president of the Institute), presided, and he was supported by the M.W.G.M., Brother M. Niccol. The committee's report, which was an exhaustive one, dealt with the operations of the last year, and the treasurer's statement showed that notwithstanding the cost of inaugurating the Institution, there was only a balance of £13 19s '2.1 to be provided.
Brother Niccoi, moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, and said he considered they had every reason to be gratified at the position they were now in, and to thank those brethren who had borne the burden and heat of the day for the position in which they had placed them. They had every reason to bo proud of their position, for all the costs of inaugurating the Institute had been borne out of the first year's income. He then referred gratefully to the vices of Brother Tewsley, the father of the Institute, and Brother Duncan the secretary, after which he raovftl the adoption of the report and statement of accounts.
Brother Dr. Walker seconded the motion, and it was carried.
The election of officers for the ensuing year then took place. On the motion of the M.W.G.M., Brother Tews ley was elected president. A large numbers of Masters and Past Masters, representative of various lodges, were elected vice-presidents. A committee of management was, on the motion of Mr. Fowlds, elected as follow : — Brothers A. Ben<, r R. H. Caldwell, W. M. Chapman, W. L. Clu-ystal, A. Bartlett, J. Guthrie, J. Page, S. Vesper,C. Westpfahl, Ellison. Brothers W. H. Cooper and W. G. Robb were appointed auditors. Brother Duncan was re-elected hon. secretary, and Brother Laybourn was elected treasurer. Votes of thanks were accorded to the retiring officers, with special reference to the services rendered by Brother G. W. Basley, the first secretory of the Institute.
