GREAT GATHERING IN LONDON. DEMAND FOE SHORTER HOURS AND BETTER PAY. Prut Association.— Electric Telegraph.— London, May 16. At a great gathering of railway em* ployees in Hyde Park resolutions wer< passed demanding shorter hours and better pay for the men in the service throughout the United Kingdom. In the course of his remarks Mr. J, Burns urged that the railway men should have a larger representation in Parliament and said that the companies were treating the men shamelessly in practising economy in their respective services. He declared that the length of hours the men had to work had been the cause of an enormous number of deaths and accidents, while thousands of men were paid a starvation rate of wages, and actually had to exist on the tips they received. At the conclusion of the meeting Lord Salisbury, Mr. Balfour, and Mr. Gladstone were hissed.
