The area of distress in Germany is Increasing. The Rev. Dr. Pierson will officiate ab tho London Tabernacle till June. Morland, the blackmailing tutor, has been sentenced to ten years' penal servitude. Mercier, the ex-Premier of Quebec, declares that the public are ungrateful and unjust. The Belgian Government intend to in« stitute a council to protect the interests of the labouring classes. Russia is protecting the man arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the murder of Dr. Vulkowitch, Bulgarian agent ab Constantinople. G. W. Hastings, M.P. for East Worcestershire, convicted of fraud as a trustee, has been sentenced to five years' imprisonment. He will be expelled from the House of Commons. The French Chamber of Deputies has granted women workers power to vote upon the appointment of Boards of Arbitration, bub declines to permit them to become members of such Boards. The Canadian Government endorses Lord Salisbury's attitude with regard to the Behring Sea dispute, and has also declined the request of tho United States to intio l duce a Chinese Exclusion Bill.
