NEW MARKET BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council was held yesterday evening, when there were present: His Worship the Mayor, Mr. G. Kent (chairman), Messrs. Whyman, Angus, Edgerly, Heron, and Laxon. Water Meter.—The turncock reported that the inside works of the water meters were almost worn out, and recommended the importation of new works from Kngland, the cost of which would bo about £30. The Chairman gave notice that he would move at the next meeting of the Council, " That the duplicate works bo obtained as soon as possible." Obstruction to a Road. —With roference to the encroachment on to the road of a stone wall surrounding the Bank of New Zealand Estates Company's property in Morrow-street, the manager, Mr. J. C. Hanna, wrote stating that the matter would be attended to without delay. Letter received. Fire Brigade.—The secretary of the Onehunga Borough Council wrote, asking for information to be furnished relating to the constitution of the Newmarket Fire , Brigade. The town clerk stated that ho had written, giving the information required. Notice of Motion.—Mr. Whyman gave notice of a motion for the next meeting, " That the motion re three months'notice to Stockley, and that tenders be called for removal of nightsoil bo rescinded, as the motion is irregular and not in accordance with the standing orders." Finance.—Accounts amounting to £33 15s -id were passed for payment.
