LA GRIPPE.
TO THE EDITOR. _ Sir,—ln this provincial district the vie* titna of the above disease are not to be counted by tens, twenties, or hundreds, but by thousands, therefore the man or woman who can invent or discover a preventative or cure for that malady would be a public benefactor. I have no faith in the Taranaki Chinaman's cure, as he displayed a total want of brains in forwarding his samples to Sir James Hector in an envelope instead of in a tin match box. German experts state that the disease is caused by little wretches of homeopathically infinitesimal size, and unfortunately, like the sparrows, they rigidly carry out the primeval command, "Be fruitful and multiply." Being a victim to the invasion of these little wretches I can speak feelingly on the subjeot, as for a couple of months they have held a sort of garrotting grip upon my throat. In spite of all efforts at ejection, they still retain possession. It appears that all sorts and .conditions of men, women, and children are liable to this invasion. Some victims suffer from fita of giddiness, pains in the head, back, and stomach ;* others again have an alarming cough, followed by some sort of irritatiDg arrangement in the throat. The victims rapidly lose strength, and have to be exceedingly careful of exposing themselves to draughts. The grand thing is to repel these little invaders before, they are able to entrench themselves in some vital part of the victim.—lam, etc., W.G.
