ECONOMY OR WASTE!
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Mrs. Aldis's argument holds good upon the question of wasting powder to show sympathy for the loss of a Prince of a family beloved of the nation, may not the same be said of mourning, costly coffins, wreaths, etc., and yet all these things and their manufacture and sale give employment for hundreds of men, women, and children. If all the wealthy world were to save their accumulated riches, how are the others to live ? We should have too much of the evil that already exists, the rich becoming richer and the poor poorer. It is wonderful to find to what extent well-meaning men and women will carry a carping spirit that sees good in nothing, and evil in all things, and who pose as martyrs when differed with. _ Verily, women have a good crop of vanities and weaknesses in the decoration direction, and cannot afford to throw stones.—l am, &c., Cacoethes Carpendi. i
