rc :■ POLICE COURT.— Saturday. [Before Br. Giles, R.M.I ' ? ' Drunkenness.—One man, a first offender, was fined 5s and costs, or, in default, 24 hours' hard labour. Railway By-laws. William Bruce was charged with having, on the 25th August, . i travelled by train from Remuera to Newmarket without having previously paid big proper fare. Mr. Devore appeared for the Railway Commissioners, and stated that ha had no desire to press for a heavy penally. There was no intent to defraud, but tho practice must be put down. The defendant) explained that lie had no wish to avoid payment, but, being late, had no time to purchase a ticket. A line of 5s and costs was inflictcd. Maintenance. — Henry McGinn ' was charged with having failed to comply with ' *|sjf an order of the Court for the maintenance ' ■ of his wife., having allowed the sum of £52 to be in arrears. Defendant did not appear. Mr. Cotter appeared for tho complainant, and stated that the wife was desirous rather of urging contributions for the future than to press for tho payment of >3 arrears. The case was adjourned for a ; • fortnight.
