A DISPUTED CHEQUE.
o [BY TELEGRAPH. — PAKBS ASSOCIATION, j Wellington, Monday. A remarkable tiase was heard at the Resident Magistrate's Court to-day. A man named William Thomas sued Alexander Grant, sheep farmer, of Hawke'a Bay, for £16, the amount of a cheque cashed by plaintiff. Grant swore he never received the money, and the signature was not known. A witness, expert in handwriting, believed the cheque a fortrory. The Resident Magistrate gave judemenb for defendant, ?-nd ordered the cheque to be impounded with a view to ulterior proceed-
