A man named William Thomas sued Alexander Grant, sheep farmer, of Hawke'a Bay, for £16, the amount of a cheque cashed by plaintiff. Grant swore he never received the money, and the signature was not known. A witness, expert in handwriting, believed the cheque a fortrory.
