HOME RULE.
TO THE EDITOR. • Sir,—l have no desire to enter into a con> troversy with " Dewardo" re the above. But for the sake of argument I will admit that the rabble only received Parnell in Belfast, and that the great bulk of the population ot the "Northern Athens" are against both Parnell and Home Rule, what does the latter adrniasion prove ? It proves that wjth all their enterprise, talent, and respectability, they are deficient in the exalted virtueof patriotism ; that rather than join with men like Dr. Crokc and Justin McCarthy, men at least equally as talented arid progressive as themselves, they would appear lief ore the whola world as supporters of a dying Toryism, which even a child can see is becoming defunct. I venture to prophesy that in the light of history, long after Home Rule is an accomplished fact, the attitude of the great bulk of the population of the "Northern Athens" at the present juncture will appear anything bub noble or high-minded.—lam, etc.,.
