SHEEP DISEASE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sip..la your report of the meeting of the Auckland oattle Board you mention that Mr. McLean, the : Government veterinarv surgeon, ' anticipates "a great mortality 1 ' : among sheep, and that he has come to Auckland for the purpose / of f Investigating the ' disease; but, alas! he adds, " the present is an unfavourable time to do actual work;" and his visit is: therefore jto end in smoke. ' Does Mr. McLean realise the gravity of the situation? .1 feai; not. Is he aware that many farmers are very anxious, : indeed, about the health of their flocks, fearing lest these also should go amiss, adding another misfortune to the late bad harvest, and that when his contemplated visiti was announced I they took heart and looked for. a -speedy remedy. ?>'And,"pray, why is the present" an : unfavourable time to do actual work?" Is Mr. McLean afraid to face the country at this inclement season of the year Are his boots too thin for aught save the office floor? • The diseases is rampant; and > immediate action is imperative, but Mr. McLean is nob ready. I fear, notwithstanding Mr. Lawry's high commendation, that Mr. McLean is not the boy for Galway.—l am, &c., . Ovis,'
