. The "■ termination of the cricketing season was celebrated in ■' this district by a most enjoyable '.■ ball, given by = the local cricket club on Friday last, the 22ud, in the. public school. There was a good attendance, and the dancing, commencing at 8 p.m., was kept up with spirit, until 4.30 ;on the following morning. Mr. F. Allen, secretary of the cricket club, acted as M.C. :•■■* At -intervals songs and recitations were given, as follows : —Miss Emily Sinclairo, song, "The Boating of my. Own Heart;" Mr. James Ballantyne, song, " When You and I Were Young, Maggie;" Mrs. Charles ' Middleton, song, "On the Banks of Allan Water;" Mr. A. Hanson, song, "A Motto for J , -very Man ;" Mr. F. Allen, recitation, "Categorical Courtship Miss E. Sinclaire, song, "The Three Old Maids of Lee," and' in response to a decided encore, " Remember or Forget;" Mr. Cobine, song, "The Rose;" Mr. J. Ballantyne, song, " Anchored." Miss Middleton acted as accompanist to the * singers in a most efficient manner, and the: following ladies and gentlemen supplied the dance music : —Mra. Middleton, tlie Misses Middle ton (2) and Sinclaire , and Messrs. W. Muir D. ~.. Kemp, Wilson, ; and Ballantyne. - The secretary, of the ; cricket club ~ announced during the evening that the two prizes which had been offered for the best batting and bowling during the season awarded to Mr. Donovan, for whom three cheers were given. Refreshments were handed round at about 12 o'clock, and ample justice was done to the ' abundance 'ot good things. Amongst the moat striking and prettiest costumes worn by the ladies were the following :—Miss Tebbutt, pink cambric, black lace; < Mies Whitechurch, white lawn, maroon ''--.'.sash ; Miss Lucio ■ Whiteohurch, white lace; Miss Sinclaire, cream cashmere; Miss E. Sinclaire, pale blue nun's veiling, cream lace; Miss Alary Sinclair*, salmon pink nun's veiling, cream lace; Miss Middleton, pink sateen, cream laco; Miss ■■!).". Middleton, white lawn; Miss , Kidd, white muslin, pink sash ; Miss Mary Muir, white boxed muslin.
