SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

ANNUAL ELECTIONS. OTAHUHO. The annual meeting for the election of a school committee for the Otahuhu district was held on Monday evening, 27th April, Mr. Luke in the chair. The chairman of the outgoing committee read "a full and exhaustive report of the committee's proceedings and of school work for the past year. The following is a copy of the inspector's report in August last :—"The organisation of the school is good; the methods and quality of instruction in general and in detail are very good. The order, discipline, and tone of the school, with respect to diligence, alacrity, and obedience, are very good." Tho number on the roll is 222, of these 89 belong to the infant class. The staff of teachers at the present .time consists of Mr. James Armstrong, head teacher ; Miss Harding and Miss Gillespie, assistants ; and Miss Mclvenzie and Mr. Ingram, pupil teachers. The committee report that the whole staff of teachers" have been most zealous and diligent in their work during the. past year. Agricultural science has been taught with good results to the pupils of the higher standards. At the last scholarship examination Grace Plumley, a pupil of the school, won a district scholarship. The committee consider that the thanks of the' people of Otahuhu are duo to the Board of Education for the very liberal manner it has granted money for the enlargement of the school, and the erection of a new teacher's house. These much needed works were finished at the beginning of the year. Tho expenditure of the committee in fencing and improving the schoolground has been larger than usual. The annual grant by the Board to tho committee has been supplemented by the sum of £1G 3s Sd, the net proceeds of two concerts, which were organised in aid of the school fund by the wives of the committee and by the teachers. The committee urge parents to send their children regularly to school. This oft complained of and continued neglect of the parents, inflicts an injury not only on the children, but on the community at large. The report was, after some discussion, adopted by the meeting. Mr. McGee and others expressed much regret that Mr. Atkinson, the outgoing chairman, had decided not to stand again for election. A vote of thanks for his past services, and the disinterested work he had done for the school, was accorded to him by acclamation. There were eight candidates for election. Forty-six householders voted, and the following number of votes was accorded by ballot to each candidate :—T. A. Brown, 38 ; W. S. Day, 36; R. Dick, 40 ; O. C. McGee, 22; T. Johnston, 38; H. Syms, 23; J. Todd, 41 ;P. Warren, 10. Messrs. Brown, Day, Dick, Johnston, Syms, Todd, and Warren were declared duly elected. A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the proceedings. At the first meeting of the new committee Mr. P. Warren was elected chairman; Mr. J. Todd, treasurer; Mr. 11. Syms, secretary.[Own Correspondent.] a wit a.

At the annual meeting of householders in this district there was a fair attendance. Mr. Edward Garland was called to the chair. The Chairman called upon Air. James Hamilton, jut)., the chairman of the outgoing committee, to read the annual report. This was considered very satisfactory —there being a credit balance of £Q '2s 4d. As there were seven gentlemen nominated as members of the committee, no ballot was necessary, and the following were duly elected a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs. J. Garland, E. Garland, J. Irwin, G. J. Garland, \V. Short, T. R. Tindall, and J. Hamilton, jun. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr. James Hamilton as chairman of the outgoing committee, and to the lust year's committee. A vote of thanks to the chairman of the meeting terminated the proceedings.[A Correspondent.] r TE AWAMCTIX.

The election of the Te Awamutu School Committee took place on Monday evening. There were nine candidates, and the ballot resulted as follows :— J. Walton, 38 :G. M. Aider, 33 ; T. J. Rogers, 33; R. B. Brown, 33 ; T. K. Millar, 31 ; J. B. Teasdnle, 27 ; T. Gresham, 21; E. Cox, 13; and J. L. Mandeno, 13. The two. latter were not elected. The first meeting of the new com mittee was held the same evening, and Mr Walton was appointed chairman.

VAKORANGA. The annual meeting of the householders of the Pakuranga School District was held on Monday evening, in the schoolroom. Mr. E. Fitzpatrick, chairman of the old committee, was voted to the chair. The outgoing committee's report was very satis factory. At the last standard examination, only one pupil failed, and that pupil's attendance was very irregular. The school was conducted in a most efficient manner by Mr. T. B. Tanner, head teacher, and Mies I. M. Roberts, assistant. The.com mittee had, during the year, paid the sum of £9 103, half the Cost of painting the school, and after paying all accounts, there remained the sum of £6' la to their credit. The following trentleuien were ."elected a committee for the ensuing year :—Messrs. E. FitzPatrick, A. Thompson, J. Qualtrough, Joseph Roberts, John Fortune, C. Hare, and 11. Millan. The now committee subsequently met, and again re-elected Mr. E. FitzPatrick as their chairman and secro tary.
