Fifth— operations of the year raised the annua income of the Society from £1,512,230 t> , 625,185, an increase in twelve months 0 ' £112,905. Sixth—The Accumulated Fund was increased durin; the year by the sum of £742,311, equal to 71 pe cent, of the gross premiums received. ~ Seventh —The deaths among lives assured were 64' 3 under 735 policies, causing claims upon th Society amounting to £299,602, irrespective 0 bonus adilition-s, -\vnile the number expect** according to the tables used in estimating th liabilities would have been 1143 for an aiuoun of £435,976, the mortality experience being thu extremely favourable. Eighth—The receipts from Interest and Rents wer £516,832, an amount exceeding the sum paid fo the claims by £138,952. ' Ninth— expenses of management were only 9"i per cent, of the total receipts. Tenth— cash surplus divided for the year 188 was £426,494, being at the rate of 4T5 per ceni on the premiums received. The operations of the Society during the 41 yeai of its existence may be summarised as under :— It has issued 141,907 policies, assurin £49,417,717. It has paid to the representatives of decease members over £4,000,000, in satisfaction < death and matured claims. It has divided among the members cash bonus* aggregating over £4,000,000, yielding reve: sionary additions of over £8,000,000. , It has acquired an Accumulated Fund < £9,000,000, all invested to yield fully 6 pi n cent, interest.
