BOROUGH COUNCILS.

PARNELL. A meeting of the Parnell Borough Council was held last evening. Present : Mr. H. B. Sealy (Mayor), Messrs, McOabe, Gay, Gilmour, Kissling, Augur, Thorne, Savage, and A. Wright. Boatshed.—Mr. William Holder, who some time ago had obtained permission to erect a boatsned on the eastern side of St. George's Bay, now asked permission to enlarge it by lengthening it 10 feet. He did not think it would in any way interfere with the traffic, being in an out-of-the-way The request was granted, on the usual terms, and subject to removal when required. Drainage.'—M. Neville asked the Council to reconsider their decision in reference to applicant connecting his property in Clyde-street with main drain in Stratfordstreet. Mr. Kissling said no reason being given why the matter should be recon sidered the application should be refused, otherwise they would only waste the time of the Council. Mr. Gay and Mr. Gilmour however, thought the circumstances exceptional,' It was finally agreed that the Council adhere to its former decision, and request the applicant to comply at once with the decision of the Council. Brighton Road.—A petition was received from Mr. Moses Bates and five other ratepayers asking that a proper footpath might be made on the north side of Brighton Road, from the corner of Bldon-street to the School Reserve. It was presented by Mr. Savage, and it was referred to the Streets Committee to report. ChuktOiV-stkekt.—Mr. E. Withy wrote offering to convey to the Council the freehold of a triangular piece of ground abutting on the end of the footpath in front of Mr. McCabe's premises, on condition that they erected a neat substantial retaining wall in addition to the cost of conveyance, and make provision for drainage. The Mayor thought the site of the wall, which Mr. Withy suggested should be built on his side of the road boundary, should be included in the grant to the borough. It appeared the pluce had been visited by the Streets Committee, aud was referred to in their report. Finally the whole matter was deferred till the overseer of works furnished an estimate of the cost of the wall. Avon-stkekt.—Mr. William Singer wrote in reference to the completion of the road leading to his property; also, the state of Mr. AYorthington's drain, and asking that the work should be done at once. The application was referred to the Streets Committee for their report. Nuisance Inspkotoe.— This officer reported thnt the slaughterhouses were in a cleanly condition, and the dust contractor was doing his work according to instructions. Ho had notified the propertyowners re Clyde-street drain, but had heard nothing more us to what they intended. The report was received. Streets Committee.—A lengthy report was received from the Streets Committee in regard to several streets which they had visited in accordance with the instructions of the Council for the purpose of inspecting certain proposed works. They recommended certain works, which it was agreed should bo done as soon as convenient. FINANCK. —The statement of funds was as follows :—General account, debit, £2 15s Is ; water supply account, credit, £36 7s 6d; waterworks account., credit, £35 15s 6d ; drainage loan account, £122 18s 7d. Accounts amounting to £G3 11s 3d were passed far payment. The report was adopted. DEVONPORT. There was a full attendance of the councillors of this borough at its regular meeting, last night. The Mayor, Mr. E. W. Alison,, presided. Finance. —A table of estimates for the ensuing year was submitted. It showed that tho total estimated expenditure was £1830, whjch amount included bank overdraft £553, and present liabilities £350. The estimated revenue was £1199, so that by tho end of tho year the balance of liabilities would be £637. Bathing Accommodation.—A report of the Streets and Works Committee recommended the erection of separate bathing siieds on Cheltenham Beach for males and females, the erection of similar accommodation on the Beach Road, and tho application of a site from the Defence Department was considered, but as the bathing season was now over ths matter was deferred till the first meeting in September next. Annual Bath. —In accordance with notice previously given, the Mayor moved, " That the Council, at the next meeting, strike and levy a general rate of Is in the £1 on all rateable properties within the borough, for the twelve months terminating March 31, 1892." Cemktkry.—The foreman of works' recommendation, Unit shrubs, etc., be planted on both sides of the main avenue in the cemetery, wus adopted. Permission for the foreman to use the western portion of the cemetery was granted on condition that it be kept in good order. Stanlby-stkkkt UiiAiXAGK.—The Mayor reported that at a, conference of the Council with the Domain Board, it was agreed that the Council contribute one-third cost of laying a drain down Stanley-street under supervision of the foreman of works. A motion giving effect to the recommendation was carried. Throe months' further leave of absence was granted to Mr. H. Pitts on account of illness. ONEHUNGA. The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Onehunga Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last night, There were present:—His Worship the Mayor (Captain AT. Yates) in the chair ; Messrs. Keehan, Hills, Mooney, Bray, J. Shaldrick, Hastie, Tapp, Burden, and Barf. PotTND-KKEPKK.— Mr. J. McPike wrote, tendering his resignation as pound-keeper, stating that the remuneration was not sufficient. It was agreed to accept the resignation from the date of his successor's appointment, and that applications be invited from persons willing to act as keeper of the public pound. Storm Water. —Mr. G. J. Barry asked tho Council to provide a large culvert in Willow-street to cany off storm water. It was resolved to attend to the work. Slaughterhouse.'—Mr. C. Webber requested permission to erect a slaughterhouse on his property adjacent to the tannery. The matter was referred to the Reserves Committee to consider and report. Road Repairs.—Mr. R. Hall, chairman of the One-tree Hill Road Board, wrote acknowledging the receipt of a letter, calling attention to the bad state of road. The road would be inspected by members of his Board, and the matter duly considered at next meeting. Charitable Aid.—A communication was received from Mr. EC. N. Garland, secretary of the Charitable Aid Board, notifying the Council that their contribution for the year ending April, 1892, would amount to £99. Financial Statemknt.—The Town Clerk reported that at the last meeting the credit balance stood at £206 2s 9d ; paid away since, £42 3s 6d ; paid in, £133 10s 5d : leaving a credit balance amounting to £297 9s 3d. Road Metal.—Mr. Hills moved, "That tenders be called for the supply of 600 yards of scoria metal of approved quality from Mount Smart quarry, separate prices to be given for the supply for the east and west sides of Queen - street." ' Mr. Keehan seconded the motion, which was agreed to. Mr. Tapp gave notice that he would move at the next meeting, " That no more metal be carted except by tender, and that tenders be called from persons willing to perfoVin the work."
