London, April 6. News lias been received that a rising of the Shans has broken out in Burmah.
The British agent and his escort were drawn into an ambush, five of the party being killed and eleven wounded.
Calcutta, April 6.
The Miranzai have arisen and commenced a general attack. A strong punitive force is proceeding to Kohat to repress them.
A despatch has been received from Lieutenant Grant stating that he believes himself to be the only European left alive in Manipur.
The relieving forces are hurrying along, together with the whole of the Ghoorka army in Manipur, to the fort captured at Thonal by Grant.
