OKAIHAU AGRICULTURAL SHOW.

The show of the Bay Islands Agricultural and Horticultural Society was held in the hall of this district on the 11th ult., the weather proving all that could be desired. We must acknowledge that, with the growing importance and magnitude of this show, other arrangements than those of the past must be made in order to relieve the working officers of the burden and anxiety they are called upon to bear on the day of the show. There was ample evidence that more workers were needed. However, we may Bay that altogether the undertaking was a success in every way. The number of entries were 597. The classes comprised horses, cattle, sheep, poultry, dairy, bread, etc.; fruit, garden produce, preserves, etc. ; flowers, needlework, arts, and handiwork, and the entries were fairly divided among them. The hall was far too small for the show, and the judges and stewards must have found the greatest difficulty in doing their duty in some of the departments. The people began to gather early, and the proceedings were considerably enlivened by the Hokianga Brass Band, under Bandmaster Klieber. The tedium of the day was considered by the committee, for people cannot be looking for hours at the exhibits without wearying, so sports of various kinds were arranged. The judges were Messrs. Morton, Weaver, Parker, Thomas, Press, G. Tolerton, Vaughan, Goodhue, Rev. Walsh, Captain Burleigh, Spencer, and Mrs. Kirkpatriek, The stewards: Misses Slator, Keaiiey. Nicholson, Messrs. Steel, C. Tolerton, J. B. Clarke, Newton, Ludbrook, D. | McKenzie, J. McKenzie, J. Mackereth, H. Smith, A. Anderson, and Michie. The committee desire to thank most heartily these helpers for their services.
