fAs yet no definite settlement has been come to respecting the public works expenditure of the Government. Ministers cannot at
present tell exactly how much will be available, including the amount expected to be derived from the loan.con version operation. We are informed from Wellington that the following will b6 something like the outline of the scheme to be proposed to Parliament in the coming session North of Auckland, £30,000 ; Rotorua Railway, £30,000 ; Eketahuna-Woodville, £40,000; Welling-ton-Te Aro, £13,000 ; Greymouth-Hoki-tika, £30,000; Otago Central, £70,000; other Otago lines —viz., Seaward Bush, Catlin's River, etc.£7o,ooo. Also, out of the North Island Trunk Railway loan £70,000, for further extension of that line, and for roads and other works in connection therewith.
