WAIKATO FARMERS' CLUB.

The ordinary monthly meeting of theWaikato Fanners' Club was held on Monday night at Cambridge. Present -. Messrs. G. E. Clark (president), J. Fisher (vice-president), R. Fisher, C. Roberts, R. Reynolds, T. Hartly, M. Butler, E. Allen, C. Bull, J. Fisher, jun.; J. Gane, T. Wells, R. Caley, and others. Mr. L. Edson was elected a member of the club. A letter was read from Mr. Hyatt explaining the reason for fixing the date ot his lecture on a club night. Mr. R. Reynolds read his promised paper on " The Dairy Cow, and Some of Her Points of Excellence." The paper was an interesting one, and showed careful study of the subject. TJie conclusions arrived at by the writer were that, for dairy purposes, there was nothing to equal the Jersey breed. He recommended, however, that efforts should be made, by selection and getting a strain of Jersey blood, to improve the milking qualities of the Hereford and shorthorn, these latter being considered far the best for beef. Mr. Wells, one of the judges at the late Horticultural Show, spoke of the excellent quality of butter shown, and highly commended a sample from a Jersey dairy on account of its evenness, firmness, and good keeping qualities. Air. Gane dia not think that Jerseys would suit the district. Better results all round could be obtained from shorthorns and- Herefords. The discussion was adjourned till next meeting. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Reynolds !
