There was jeautiful weather for the second day of the Ntpier Park Club's races, and the attendance of the public was very large. The racing was splendid, but the favourites generally had a bad time of it. The sum of £oMI was invested in the totalisator, making £10,927 for the two days. The results of the racing are: — Second Tkiai Handicap Hurdle Race of 40sovs. Mr. A. Matcbeld's ch g Nikau, aged, by The Mute—Topaz, 9st l'2lb (Harris) ... 1 Me. B. Denueley'a bg Somnambulist, 4yrs, 10at 121b 2 Mr. T. Carrol's bl g Aorere, 6yrs, lOst 41b 3 Prospect (lOst 51b), Stepper (9st *2lb), Forty Winks (9sc), Rangatiri (9st), Defiance (9*>t 51b), and Loptz (9st) also started. Won after a good race Uj a couple of lengths, the same distance separating second and third. Time, •2m. 24 4-sth s, Dividend, £10 3s. Novel Race of 70sovs. Once round. Mr. W. Douglas' d g Swivel, 4yrs, by Mute—ttwireline, 7s t 10lb (Cook) ... 1 Mr. J. Clark's b m Misfortune, 4yrs, 7st 91b (Banks) 2 Mr. C. Joyce's Salisbury, aged, 7st 21b (Donovan) ... ... ... •■• ••• 3 Blue Mountain (7st 101b) and Vision (Bst) also ran. This was a splendid race from start to finish. Misfortune had a length's lead entering the straight, when Swivel challenged him, and getting on terms opposite the second stand, both raced together to the post, Swivel winning by a nose, Boulanger clase up, third. Time, lm, 4os. Dividend, £2 10s. The winner was sold for £42.
City Stakes Handicap, of 200aqvs; the owner of the second horse to receive 20sovs from the stakes. One mile and a-half. Mr. D. McKinnon'sbr h Loch Ness, 4yrs, by Ingomar — Albatross, Tat 6lb (Lawton) 1 Mr. L' , . Martin's c m Retina, 4yrs, 7st 81b (Lindsay) 2 Hon. J. D. Ormoiid's # f Queen of Trumps, 3yrs, 7st 71b (Ray) ... * ... 3 When the horses settled down to work YViikatinu had the lead, but at the entrance to the straight, the field closed up, except Pouawa, who was beaten. Half-way down the straight, Loch Mess and Retina drew slightly in trout, but Queen of Trumps and Lenorc coming fast, trie finish was a very exciting one, and resulted in Loch Ness winning by a neck from Retina, who just beat Queen of Trumps for second place. Krina led for some distance after the fall of the followed by JtLakimana, Thane, and Rosefeldt. Entering the straight, all the horses with the exception of Thane, were under the whip, but they could not get on terms with Mr. Ormoud's filly, who won easily by a couple of lengths from Hakimaua. Mr. A. Ellingham's Swivel, 4yrs, by Mute —Swiveline, carried Sst 121b (Donovan) 1. Mr. D. McKiunon's br h Locli Ness, 4yrs, 7stßlb(Lawton) 2 Mr. D. Hepburn's br m Pouawa, 6yrs, 6st 51b (Reid) 3 Retina (Sat 61b), Pursestring ("st 31b), Thackeray (6st 71b), and Triton (7st) were the other starters. Swivel was quickest away, aud was never headed, winning easily by two lengths. Time, lm 17 2-ss. Dividend, £17.
