MAUNGATUROTO ANNUAL SPORTS.
Tin: local annual sports came off successfully on Wednesday, the 28th January, in a paddock on tin; Jiiuulerwyn estate, kindly lent for the occasion. The weather was rather showery, which somewhat marred the pleasure of the day's outing, nevertheless about 200 persons assembled, and appeared to enjoy themselves. The judges, Messrs. Snelling and Smith, gave every satisfaction, and the committee, working well together, got through a lengthy programme in very good time. The following'is a list of the events : — Tilting at tjie Ring : Entrance fee, 3s 6d ; Ist prize, 30s; 2nd, 10s; seven entries. P. A. Dodcl, 1; L. Quintal, 2. Gkkasv Pole (boys only): Prize, Waterbury watch j four entries. —Won by A. Causer.

Hoiisjc Jumping : Entrance fee, os ; five; entries; Ist prize, £2; '2nd, £1. —Mr. Gill's horse, 1; Mr. Smelling's, 2nd. Til REE- ED Hack : Entrance fee, Is (id ; Ist prize, 15s; 2nd, as; three entries.—ll. Simpson and W. Sarah, ]. Polo Rack: Entrance fee, lis; Ist prize, 25s ; 2nd, 10s ; five entries.—ll. Simpson, 1 ; A. McAuSy, 2. Ladies Race: Entrance fee, Is; prize, handsome floral album; five entries.Won by Miss Blow. Mr. Snelling on behalf of the sports committee presented Miss Blow with the prize. Swimming Race : Entrance fee, 3s Cd ; Ist prize, .'JOs ; 2nd, 10s; live entries.—A. Gloyn, 1; T. Delabrosse, 2. Greasy Boom : Entrance fee, 2s Gd ; prize, .'ids ; five entries. —Won by T. Delabrosse. Trotting Race : Entrance fee, 4s; Ist prize, £2; 2nd, 103; nine entries. —Mr. King's horse, 1; Mr. Dibble's, 2. A protest was entered by Mr. Dibble against Mr. King's horse, on the ground that lie broke and did not turn, but it was not sustained. Kicking the Foot hall : Entrance fee, 2s ; prize, 20s ; four entries. —Won by T. Shelly. Running High Jump: Entrance fee, ."fa ; Ist prize, 20s ; 2nd, 10s; live entries. —A. Stewart, 1; H. Simpson, 2. ; Tug-O-Wak: Entrance fee, Is; sweepstake, with added money.—Kaiwaka v. Maungaturoto : Won by Kaiwaka. Boys' Race : Entrance fee, Is ; Ist prize, 10s; 2nd, ss. l f ive entries. —E. Gloyn, 1 ; T. Taylor, 2. In the evening a dance was held in Davies' Hall, at which about 80 couples assembled. Excellent music was supplied by Messrs. E. Mooney (piano), and J.
