KAWAKAWA ANNUAL RACES. These races came off at Kawakttara on anniversary day as usual. The weather was all that could be desired, and the attendance quite up to the ordinary standard. The day's amusement was not marred by even the semblance of the usual fight, and although the publicans both appeared to be well patronised, no drunks were observed on the course, and our bluecoats consequently had a rosy time of it. A few spellers Were early on the job, and judging from the crowds around them, did a good trade. The bookies also were fairly represented, birt instead of " making "rumour says they "p-arted." The following is the result of the ev.ents : — Handicap Hurdles of lOsovs; three times round the course, over six flights of hurdles 3 feet 6 inches high.—Mr. C. J. Rasmussen's Alma, list, 1; Mr. G. Hahehard's Lochiel, 9st 411), 2; Mr. A. Richardson's Forest King, 9st 51b, 3. Maiden Plate of Bsovs; for all horses that have never won an advertised race to the amount of the stakes.—Here Po's Orphan Boy, 9st 4lb, 1; Mr. G. Hanchard's Lochiel, flat 41b, 2: and Mr. J. Main's Pearl, 9st lib, 3. Settlers' Hack Race of Ssovs • four times round the course. 12st up.—Mr. R. Halls Matenga Nui, 1; Mr. J. Hallitlay's Fleabite, 2: and Mr. .J. win bank's Little Jessie, 3. Kawakawa Handicap of 2osovs; four times round the course.—Mr. T. Snowmen's New Chum, 1; Mr. C. J. VVvatt's Larrikin, 2; and Mr. A. Richardson's forest King, 3. Settlers' Hack Handicap of Ssovs. For all horses the bona fide property of settlers in the Kawakawa Riding from October, 1890. Twice round the course ; gentlemen riders ; weight not to exceed —Mr. Warrington's Ivotero walked over for this race.

Ladies' Purse of lasovs; three ( times round the course. Mr. C. J. Wyatt's Larrikin, 9st 41b, 1; Mr. 11. MclnniS's Witt Tyler, 9st 41b. 2. Hurky Scurry of ssovs; for all untrained horses ; to be handicapped at the post three times round the course.—Here Po's Tetoki, 1; Mr. J. Swinbank's Little Jessie, 2; Mr. A. McKenzie'S Electric, 3. Consolation Race of Ssova; for all beaten horses: twice round the course. Mr. H. Mclnnis's Wat Tyler, 1; Mr. J. Masefield's Chrysalis, 2; Mr. J. Alain's Pearl, 3. A protest was lodged against the Cnp winner _ by the owner of Forest King, in which it was alleged that the horses only went round three times, instead of four, as advertised. This protest was not entertained, and the decision of the judge was sustained. The settling-lip took place afc the Star Hotel, on the Slat January, before which, however, the Committee disqualified the horse New Chum and his jockey, J. Foy, for t two _ years, it being proved to their satisfaction that the said horse was pulled off the course in the Hurdle Race to prevent his winning. New Chum and his jockey will be posted throughout the North. The stakes are to be kept possession of for a fortnight, in ease of any appeal, in default of which they will be paid over to the second horse, Larrikin. This decision meets with the approval of almost everyone who saw the race, the deliberate pulling of the horse being observed by all that were watching the horses, the jockey effecting llis purpose without the slightest attempt at disguise. All other liabilities were then duly paid over to the entire satisfaction of all parties concerned.—[Own Correspondent.]

The Northern Steamship Company are offering special inducements to Aucklanders to visit the Egmont Racing Club's meeting, which takes place on the ISth and 19th insfcS. The s.s. Gairloch is timed to leave Onehunga for New Plymouth on Monday next, and a return ticket (including rail fare) is to be issued at £2 10s.

At the Geelong races on the 30th ult., Mr. W. R. Wilson scored a victory with the Auckland bred two-year-old Cooya, the daughter of Nordenfeldt—Realisation. This was in the Trial Stakes, for which she started at 3to 1, and won easily. The same gentleman also scored another victory in the Sires' Produce Stakes with La Tosca (by St. Albans —Nightmare). The Ceelong Cup was won by Tantallon (Bst 71b). Tarcoola (9st 41b) being second, and Forest King (Sst 131b) third. King William was amongst the unplaced division. Tantallon won easily by three lengths, the mile and three-quarters being cut out in 3m. Bs. Kneecap, who, it will be remembered, was purchased from Dr. Connolly last year by Mr. W. R. Wilson, won the Hurdle Race in the colours of the Hon. D. S. Wallace, beating a field of seven in easy style. The erst-Aucldander Orlando is amongst those entered for the V.R.C. Steeplechase.
